Tournament rules
1. Tournament organizer:
Turun Nuorisokiekko ry
2. Tournament formats
Different formats may be used for different age groups at the discretion of the organizer, including the following:
1. 8-Team Level Tournament
Teams are divided into two groups of four. Group stage rankings are based on points: 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw. In case of a tie in points, ranking is decided according to section 3.9. Group winners play against the second-placed teams from the opposite group. Winners advance to the final, losers play for bronze. Teams placed 3rd and 4th do the same to determine positions 5–8. Each team plays 5 games.
2. 10-Team Level Tournament
Teams are divided into two groups of five. Group winners play in the gold medal match, runners-up in the bronze match. Third, fourth and fifth placed teams play placement matches for positions 5–10. Each team plays 5 games.
3. 6-Team Round-Robin Tournament
Each team plays every other team once (2 x 15 min games). The team with the most points wins the tournament. In case of a tie in points, section 3.9 is applied. Each team plays 5 games.
3. Tournament rules
The tournament follows the Finnish Ice Hockey Association’s (FIHA/SJL) junior rules with the following exceptions:
3.1. Game time for all age groups is 2 x 15 min. Total game time is 50 minutes, starting at the scheduled time unless otherwise notified by tournament officials. No intermission between periods. The 50-minute rule does not apply to medal games. Teams start from the “away”end of the rink.
3.2. If a placement or medal game ends in a tie, a shootout will immediately follow.
For U12/U13/U14: The shootout follows FIHA rules, starting with 3 shooters per team.
For U11: Players shoot in jersey number order until a winner is determined. Initially 3 shooters per team; if still tied, shootout continues in pairs until a winner is found. Players serving penalties at game end cannot participate. The referee decides the starting team and order direction by draw.
3.3. Goal celebrations are allowed only for players currently on the ice.
3.4. Timeouts are not allowed in any age group.
3.5. No on-ice warm-ups; the game starts directly with the starting lineup. The starting lineup does not need to be announced beforehand.
3.6. Missing names or numbers from the game sheet donot constitute grounds for protest. A player may represent only one team during the tournament weekend, except for goalies, who may play for multiple teams from the same club.
3.7. Over- or underaged players are allowed according to competition rules and regional practices.
3.8. The tournament jury has the right to disqualify players who use excessive force, act violently, commit serious unsportsmanlike conduct, or exhibit racist behaviour.
3.9. In the event of a tie in group stages or round-robin formats, rankings are decided in the following order:
1. Head-to-head result
2. Head-to-head goal difference
3. Head-to-head goals scored
4. Total goal difference
5. Total goals scored
6. Penalties received (fewer is better)
7. Coin toss
3.10. Protests are handled by the tournament jury, whose decision is final. The protest fee is 250 EUR, refunded if the protest is accepted. Protests regarding game incidents must be submitted within 20 minutes after the match ends and signed by the team manager.
3.11. If team jerseys are the same color, the team listed first in the schedule (home team) must change jerseys.
3.12. The tournament organizers reserve the right to modify the schedule and game order if necessary.
